If you believe the rumors, then in the spring of next year awaits us next, a major upgrade to Microsoft’s windows in a release that will be available under the Windows 8.1 Spring 2014 GDR.

As early as next month waiting for us a major upgrade to windows as Windows 8.1, which will be available in just a year after the release of “eights”. Thus, Microsoft greatly accelerated release cycle for Windows, and this is just the beginning, because more updates can be issued even before!

Mary Jo Foley, known observer and author of books on Microsoft products, announces that the spring of this year we expect to upgrade in the form of the system, tentatively named Windows 8.1 Spring 2014 GDR.

GDR is none other than the abbreviation for General Distribution Release and regular updates so that we know the Windows Phone platform. Currently, Microsoft is already preparing GDR3 for windows mobile, which should be available in the next few weeks.

Introduction of a similar schedule to the Windows release cycle means that the updates for windows will not receive every year, but once every six months. In this way, the Redmond giant would introduce new features in the system much faster, but in smaller portions. This solution will benefit from the users. We know them already popular web browsers (Chrome or Firefox), where every six weeks also get new features. Interestingly, in the Office family of software, Microsoft has also gone in this direction and we know that prepares regular updates that are hiding under the codename Gemini.

Sorry, but for the moment we do not know what Microsoft is planning for Windows 8.1 Spring 2014 GDR. Certainly news will be less than in the update, which is expected in October. It is certain, however, that it will be a free upgrade for users of Windows 8.1.

Perhaps you ask: What about the new Windows … 9? Well, I work on this version of certainly already underway. There is no secret that Microsoft will not be served by the new features in windows forever for free. Windows 9 will appear once. With rumors that appeared before that can take place around the second half of 2015.

The network also leaked information that Microsoft intends to merge the app stores for Windows 8 and Windows Phone into one. The Verge reports that the information revealed at a meeting at Terry Myerson, who currently serves as head of Microsoft operating systems. Myerson reported that it will happen with successive editions of Windows and Windows Phone. And now, unfortunately, we do not know whether he meant Windows 8.1 and GDR3 for mobile windows, and maybe Windows 9 and another installment of Windows Phone? About this we shall still take some time.

Microsoft was silent for a long time on the prices of new windows, which will premiere in just a month. Yesterday, the company unveiled as Windows 8.1. In addition, Microsoft has published pictures of boxes with the new system.

Works on Windows 8.1 was finalized last month and new windows can already enjoy certain users. Microsoft has so far remained silent on the price of the system. Yesterday, however, the official Windows Team Blog posted new information.

Microsoft provided official details on the prices of the new system, and these are as follows:

  •      Windows 8.1 (basic) – $ 119.99;
  •      Windows 8.1 Pro – $ 199.99;
  •      Windows 8.1 Pro Pack (which allows you to change the basic version of the Pro) – $ 99.99.

By the way, Windows 8.1 Pro users will be able to acquire the addition of the Windows Media Center that will continue to cost $ 9.99. Here it is worth a moment to stop and add that after the upgrade to Windows 8.1 package WMC who have bought more for “eight” is not lost and will continue to work.

Sales of new windows will start officially on October 18. Below you can see photos of boxes, which will soon meet in shops with computers. Nothing changes have not been plans for a free upgrade to Windows 8.1 users “eights”. Upgrade will be in the shop windows already October 17 and will be free.

Microsoft showed off the information related to the update of the older than Windows 8 systems. To perform an upgrade from an earlier version of windows you have to prepare for the following scenarios:

  •  Windows 7 – upgrade to Windows 8.1 is possible without losing any of the files stored on the drive, and the transfer of existing user accounts, but require you to reinstall all installed, desktop programs;
  •  Windows XP and Vista – in this case, Microsoft no illusions. Performing the upgrade process is not possible here. The giant from Redmond recommends a backup and then perform a clean installation process.

It is worth mentioning about the users Windows version 8.1 Preview, which Microsoft released in June. After installing the final version of the system will also have to reinstall all programs. This includes applications that run on the home screen.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has not shared any information related to the promotion of the new window, so we can assume that such plans do not exist. It’s a shame, because last year’s special offer on Windows 8 was a very interesting option. Upgrade to eight can be purchased for only 49 dollars, and, when earlier purchased a new computer system upgrade cost only 19 dollars.
